Tunisian President receives a letter from his Algerian Counterpart

The President of the Tunisian Republic, Kaïs Saïed, received today, Friday, February 2, 2024, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, as a special envoy of the Algerian President.

During this meeting the Algerian Minister handed a letter to the Tunisian President from the part of his counterpart, Abdelmajid Tebboune, according to a statement by the Tunisian Presidency.

President Saïed reiterated during the meeting, Tunisia's commitment to the tradition of consultation and coordination between the two countries' leaders, and its willingness to harmonize positions on regional and international issues, notably in view of the current situation, the Presidency of the Republic points out.

The Head of State underlined the need to step up complementarity between Tunisia and Algeria and to devise new mechanisms and working methods that meet the two brotherly peoples' aspirations, including the development of the border regions and the scaling-up of economic cooperation, trade and investment in the two countries.

He also reaffirmed Tunisia's determination to further foster bilateral relations.

Additionally, the Head of State recalled Tunisia's unfailing support for the Palestinian people in their struggle to establish an independent State on the whole of Palestinian territory.

At the end of the meeting, the Algerian envoy stated that the written message he delivered to President Kaïs Saïed from President Tebboune "testifies to the willingness to keep up constant communication as part of the two Presidents' unflagging efforts to foster Tunisian-Algerian relations in service of the interests of both countries, the region and neighboring countries."

Moreover, the Algerian minister explained that his visit falls under a positive and targeted dynamic in relations between Tunisia and Algeria, notably after the holding, last October, of the Tunisian-Algerian joint commission, which has helped stimulate new fields of bilateral cooperation, and four days after the holding of the first session of the joint commission on the development and upgrading of border regions.

"This is one of the most important aspects of bilateral cooperation," he said.
