
U.S.A - Tunisia: Discussing Strengthening Ties and Libya's Political Future
On August 12, 2024, Mr. Nabil Amar, Tunisia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, welcomed Mr. Joey Hood, the U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia, and Ambassador Richard Norland, the U.S. Special Envoy for Libya.
The meeting highlighted the strong and friendly ties between Tunisia and the United States, with discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring new avenues for partnership, stated the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.
A key focus of the dialogue was the importance of strengthening coordination between the two nations on regional and international matters of mutual interest. The conversation also addressed the ongoing political situation in Libya. Minister Amar reaffirmed Tunisia's stance, as articulated by the President of the Republic, emphasizing that any political solution in Libya must be driven by Libyans, achieved through consensus, and guided by Libyan leadership under the auspices of the United Nations.
Minister Amar reiterated Tunisia's support for efforts aimed at securing a comprehensive and lasting resolution that would ensure Libya's security, stability, and sovereignty over its resources. Ambassador Norland commended Tunisia's constructive role in facilitating dialogue among Libyan parties and echoed the United States' commitment to rejecting forceful solutions. He emphasized the U.S. willingness to collaborate with Tunisia in pursuing a peaceful, negotiated political settlement for Libya.
