
Working session between the Tunisian and Italian Ministers of Interior
The Tunisian Ministry of Interior stated that today, Monday, May 15, 2023, the Minister Kamal Feki, received at Tunis-Carthage Airport, his Italian counterpart, Mr. Matteo Piantedosi, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation in a working visit to Tunisia.
A working session was held later between the two sides at the Ministry’s headquarters in order to discuss the bilateral relations, especially in areas of common interest.
Emphasis was placed on the depth of the historical relations between the two friendly countries and on the need to strengthen the bilateral security cooperation, especially in combating organized crime, human trafficking and irregular migration.
they both agreed that this phenomenon must be addressed within the framework of an integrated approach that takes into account the interests and security of the two countries.
For his part, the Italian Minister affirmed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Tunisian authorities to limit this phenomenon, expressing his country's readiness to support it.
For his part, the Tunisian Minister indicated that the security efforts made within the framework of combating the phenomenon of irregular migration remain insufficient, calling for the need to support it with a comprehensive approach with an economic and social dimension, and this was confirmed by his Italian counterpart who confirmed his country’s commitment to sharing responsibilities and continuing to allocate an integrated program for Tunisia that includes a focus on bilateral cooperation in the field of training the youth group that is a candidate for immigration in specific professional fields in a way that qualifies them to emigrate in a regular manner.
