
A phone call between the Tunisian FM and his Italian counterpart
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad stated that the Minister Mr. Othman Jerandi had, today morning, a phone conversation with his Italian Counterpart, Mr. Antonio Tajani.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the prospects for developing them in all areas of common interest.
They also touched on the issue of irregular immigration and stressed the need to further strengthen cooperation and coordination in order to find appropriate solutions to it.
In this context, the two parties stressed the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach and setting up mechanisms to encourage regular immigration.
At the end of the conversation, the two ministers agreed to exchange ministerial visits in order to discuss all aspects of cooperation and to diagnose solutions to contain the problems of irregular immigration.
This phone call comes to confirm the dynamics of the Tunisian-Italian relations in all fields within the framework of supporting the strategic partnership that brings together the two countries, as Italy has become, since 2021, the first strategic partner of Tunisia, the first investor in the field of energy and the second largest partner in the field of foreign investments, with the presence of 901 Italian companies in Tunisia.
The Tunisian-Italian cooperation was reinforced by the announcement of the electrical interconnection project across the sea between Tunisia and Italy, which is known as the ELMED project, with the financing of 307.6 million euros
This strategic project will enable Tunisia to meet its energy needs, enhance security and energy transition, as well as achieve integration with Europe in the field of renewable energies.
