Bilateral relations reviewed between the Tunisian and Russian FMs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad stated that the Minister, Nabil Ammar, received today, December 21, 2023, at the Ministry's headquarters, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergueï Lavrov, who is making a working visit at the invitation of the Minister to Tunisia on December 20 and 21.

The two Ministers chaired the working session held between the delegations of the two countries in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, during which they reviewed the evolution of bilateral cooperation in all fields, including economic, scientific and technical sectors, and stressed the importance of moving forward in the revitalization of bilateral relations, political consultations and the expansion of areas of cooperation, added the Tunisian Foreign Ministry.

On this occasion, it was also agreed to hold the eighth session of the Tunisian-Russian Joint Committee in Moscow during the first quarter of 2024, which will constitute an important step to further strengthen bilateral relations and update the legal framework that governs them. They also discussed trade exchanges between the two countries and stressed the great importance of the issue of supplying our country with cereals, fertilizers and energy materials.

The meeting also focused on current regional and international issues. Minister Ammar reiterated, on this occasion, the firm and clear position of Tunisia on the brutal aggression suffered by the Palestinian people, calling for the definitive and immediate cessation of this barbaric aggression and to provide urgent and adequate humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people, as well as for the end of the unjust siege imposed on them in the Gaza Strip and in all the Palestinian territories and the immediate beginning of the restoration of the imprescriptible rights of the Palestinian people.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister called for an end to the fighting and the need to move forward in the search for a political solution to the Palestinian issue in order to guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people.

In addition, the two Ministers exchanged their views on the major challenges currently facing the international governance system and the need to reform it so that it is more democratic, fair and balanced in order to ensure lasting security, peace and development in the world.
