Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Antonio Tajani, and Italian Minister of the Interior, Mr. Matteo Piantedosi,
The meeting dealt with the strong friendship and distinguished cooperation existing between Tunisia and Italy and the mutual keenness to develop them in various fields within the bilateral, European and multilateral framework.
On this occasion all the sides emphasized on the joint desire to strengthen bilateral consultation and coordination, to increase the volume of economic, commercial and financial cooperation, to implement mechanisms of bilateral support for the Tunisian economy, to further stimulate Italian investments in Tunisia in several sectors and to overcome the difficulties that may encounter them.
The meeting was also an opportunity to address the issue of irregular immigration and to affirm the common conviction of the two countries regarding the need to adopt a comprehensive approach to this phenomenon that goes beyond the purely security dimension, addresses its deep causes, and provides innovative frameworks and appropriate mechanisms for the development of regular immigration, according to a statement by the Presidency of the Republic.
