Tunisia resumes exporting phosphate after 11 years
Tunisia has resumed its phosphate exports after 11 years and expects to ship more than 300,000 tons this year due to the sharp increase in global demand and at least 600,000 tons next year, a senior official at the state phosphate company said to Reuters on Tuesday.
The North African country, which is suffering its worst financial crisis, is seeking to regain its position as a major exporter of phosphates and to benefit from the sharp increase in fertilizer prices caused by the war in Ukraine.
The official added that Tunisia saw demand from France, Pakistan, Brazil, Indonesia and Turkey.
